Linking Up and Childrens Links working to end child poverty

Linking up Ltd is supporting Childrens Links in the Dare to Care Campaign to End Child Poverty in the UK, by helping to register 500 new volunteers in January.

The U.K. has one of the worst rates of child poverty in the industrialised world. Barnardo’s, End Child Poverty, CSV, The Children’s Society, Children’s Links, and NCH have launched a campaign to show what individuals can do in their own communities to help end child poverty, each charity leading a themed month of activities:

What’s happening in ‘Health Month’, January 2008

Schools,  Children’s Centres and childcare settings throughout the U.K. are invited to help a volunteer to use materials to engage children in more active play through traditional games and take part in a national competition for a ‘poster’ describing a game from another culture, with a celebrity ‘winner’s’ event planned for February.

How can schools get involved?

Schools can register their interest by emailing daretocare@childrenslinks.org.uk  Before January 2008, schools will need to enroll a volunteer to lead a traditional game (click here for sample) with children at break time or after school, each week of January. The volunteering will provide great opportunities amongst existing groups who work with schools - PTA members, governors, parents – or Year 6 children wishing to volunteer with younger children. Volunteers can get more information at www.daretocarejanuary.org.uk  and register their interest online.

How can Children’s Centres or childcare settings get involved?
Childcare settings and Childrens Centres can register their interest by emailing daretocare@childrenslinks.org.uk .Centres will need to enroll a volunteer to lead a traditional game (see sample) with children at an outside play session, each week of January. The volunteering will provide great opportunities amongst existing groups who work with settings - committee members, professionals, parents – or older children wishing to volunteer with younger children.
